Today's episode of the podcast I am joined by 30 year school teacher and City Commissioner hopeful Luigi Borda. Luigi has made it his personal mission to help solve the voting crisis in Philadelphia. In the last Primary election in May of 2018 "Just 17 percent of registered voters bothered to show up for Tuesday's primary — the 825,000 other voters didn't bother"(https://www.philly.com/philly/news/politics/what-we-can-learn-from-low-pa-primary-election-turnout-and-why-it-matters-that-just-1-in-6-philly-voters-showed-up-20180521.html) The job of City Commissioner is to get more people involved in the voting process in Philadelphia and my students and I use this interview to get to the heart of the issue of why people in Philadelphia do not vote. Kassim Karamoko and Sean Tate Webb are students from One Bright Ray Community High School and have been preparing for this interview for the last couple weeks. They approached me a couple weeks ago asking if they could share my story to Philadelphia. This is their first time doing a professional interview and I can not be more proud of them. In this interview they stepped out of their comfort zone and asked me questions that really made me reflect and inspired me to continue to strive to make this production the best it can be! That can not be possible without your feedback so let us know how we are doing by visiting

According to a report from the Pew Charitable Trust Organization "Poverty is one of Philadelphia’s most enduring problems. At 25.7 percent, the poverty rate is the highest among the nation’s 10 largest cities. About 400,000 residents—including roughly 37 percent of the city’s children under the age of 18—live below the federal poverty line, which is $19,337 in annual income for an adult living with two children. And nearly half of all poor residents are in deep poverty, defined as 50 percent below the federal poverty line."(https://www.pewtrusts.org/-/media/assets/2017/11/pri_philadelphias_poor.pdf) Episcopal Community Services has made it their mission to try to solve this problem. On this episode of the Podcast we speak to Arley Styer MSS MSLP, Chief of Programs, at Episcopal Community Services. She outlines how we, as a city, can change the culture of poverty in Philadelphia
